In March 2013 I created a natural soundscape for my bonsai

In the gallery, the artist installed a bonsai tree flanked by two high-definition speakers: a scene of highly cultivated nature. Meanwhile, downstairs in the basement of the exhibition space, an elaborate miniature pet shop, comprised of brightly-hued aquariums and terrariums equipped with microphones, fed the sounds of birds, frogs, lizards, crickets and fish back upstairs. The work dramatizes this life force as being alienated from itself; abstracted and fed into the sterile context of the art gallery. Visitors, too, are implicated in this economy: if they go downstairs, their voices become part of the menagerie of sound transmitted to the bonsai, both part of this ecology and intruders to it.
